How to Connect n8n to Google Sheets for Full Workflow Automation

This template connects n8n to Google Sheets with no backend code. A visitor fills in the contact form on your website. The form posts the data to an n8n Webhook, n8n adds it as a new row in Google Sheets, and Gmail sends you an alert for each new lead. You don't need a database, PHP or Google Apps Script. The form is a single index.html file that runs on any static host.

How the workflow runs

1. Form: 9 fields (Name, Email, Phone, Company, City, Budget, Subject, Preferred Date and Message). Name, email, phone and subject are required.
2. Webhook: a POST trigger on the path contact-form.
3. Google Sheets: the Append Row action fills 10 columns, including an ISO timestamp.
4. Gmail: the Send a message action sends the lead details to your inbox. It can set Reply-To to the customer's email, so clicking Reply answers the customer directly.

Built to work the first time

• The form sends form-urlencoded data, so the browser skips the CORS preflight. Any n8n Webhook accepts it, on n8n Cloud or self-hosted.
• Add ?test to the page URL to use the n8n Test URL while you build. Without it, the form posts to the Production URL.
• Until you paste your own webhook URLs, the form shows a "Webhook URL missing" message instead of failing silently.
• Cell Format is set to Use Format From n8n. This keeps the leading 0 on phone numbers and stops Google Sheets from rewriting dates.
• A demo-fill button adds a new set of sample data on every click, so you can test without typing.
• A sending overlay, a button spinner and success or error popups show the visitor what's happening. The error popup says whether n8n is not listening yet or the workflow is not published.

Who it is for

This is for anyone learning n8n who wants a real first workflow. It also suits freelancers and small businesses that want website leads to land in a Google Sheet and their inbox without paying for a form service. Once it runs, you can add more nodes, such as a WhatsApp message, a CRM record or a Slack alert.

Setup

Create the sheet and paste in the header row. Build the Webhook → Google Sheets → Gmail workflow using the dropdown-by-dropdown guide. Paste your two webhook URLs into index.html, upload the file to Netlify Drop, GitHub Pages or Hostinger, then click Publish in n8n. The video shows each step.
