Grocery Store POS System – Barcode Scanner + Google Sheets

A complete grocery store POS system built on Google Sheets and Google Apps Script. Scan a product with a USB barcode scanner and it lands in the current sale, take cash, card or wallet, print the receipt on a thermal printer or send it on WhatsApp. Google Sheets is the database, and the whole system runs as a mobile-friendly web app from your own Google account.

The counter

The POS counter reads product barcodes, case barcodes and scale labels for loose items sold by weight. It handles split payments, held sales, cash rounding, discounts with limits per role, and a customer display screen that shows the sale on a second tablet. Each cashier opens a shift with the cash in the drawer and closes it with a blind count, and the day close prints a Z report.

Online grocery store

Customers order from your own store page by category, choose pick-up or home delivery, pay on delivery or upload a payment proof, and track the order with its number. Staff confirm orders, send WhatsApp status messages, hand deliveries to a rider and take the order straight into the counter.

Stock and buying

Stock is kept in batches with expiry dates and sold first-to-expire-first. Print barcode labels and shelf price tags, run a blind stock count, post adjustments with approval, and turn the reorder list into purchase orders sent on WhatsApp. Goods received are checked against the order, short lines are flagged, and damaged stock goes back as a supplier return.

Money, reports and AI

• Customer credit with balances and reminders, supplier payables and expenses
• Deals and coupons (combo, buy X get Y) and loyalty points
• Sales, stock valuation, expiry, sales by product and net profit reports
• An AI store assistant that answers questions about your store data with your own Gemini, ChatGPT or Grok API key
• Six roles with editable permissions: admin, manager, cashier, storekeeper, rider and user
