Free Apps Script Tutorial – ID Search with Totals per User

R17 is the build shown line by line. Rather than handing over a finished file and leaving you to work out what it does, the whole lookup is written on camera from the first empty function to the working web app — including a real error hit along the way and fixed on screen.

What gets built

A web app where you choose which sheet to search, daily or monthly, type an ID or phone number, and get back every row stored against it. Under the list come the totals: gross volume, contract amount, tax and net payable, each summed across all the matching rows, with a count of how many entries were found. One user with six service entries returns all six and four totals, which is the answer a person actually wants rather than six rows to add up by hand.

The parts that are explained

Serving the page with doGet and setting its title, opening the spreadsheet, picking the sheet the user selected, reading the data range from row two to the last row and last column, looping the values, matching the identifier against its column, and building the running totals. Column positions are pointed out as they are used, so redirecting it at your own sheet is a matter of changing numbers you have already been shown.

Who this is for

Anyone who wants to stop copying scripts they cannot modify. The code is yours to use as it is, but the value here is understanding it well enough to change it — which columns to sum, what to match on, what to display.
