FREE024 is a name search that does not assume names are unique. Type a student's name, press search, and every row carrying that name comes back — not the first one, not a best guess, all of them. In a school register where two children share a name, that is the difference between a useful tool and a dangerous one.

Why returning everything matters

Most lookups are built as though one search equals one record. Real registers do not work like that: repeated names are normal, and a system that silently shows the first match will eventually show the wrong child's details to somebody who does not realise there is a second. Searching on something else

It searches the name column as supplied, but that is a single letter in the code. Point it at column A instead and it searches roll numbers or IDs, which is what you want once your records have proper identifiers. The fields shown in the result are set the same way, so you decide what a search actually reveals.

When nothing matches

A search with no results says so — no result found for your search — in colour, so it reads as an answer rather than a blank page. The colour itself is a value in the code if red feels too severe for your context; the walkthrough changes it to green on camera.

Setting it up, and the usual stumble

Copy the sheet, open Apps Script and make sure the sheet name written in the code matches your actual tab name. That mismatch is the error people report most often, and it is a thirty second fix. The code is commented throughout so editing the fields or the search column is not guesswork.
