How to create Login and Register Form using Google sheet data #001

FREE016 is a login and registration pair with one deliberate extra step: registering gets somebody an account, not access. Their row lands in the Login sheet and sits there until you approve it. That single column is the difference between a form anyone can walk through and a gate you actually control.

Sign up, then wait for you

The sign up form takes an email, a password and a confirmation. Before writing the row it checks the email is not already registered, so the same person cannot create two accounts by accident. The account is created and the sign up succeeds, but an attempt to log in straight away is refused. Only after you set the approval column on their row does the login go through.

The approval word is yours

By default the code looks for Yes in the approval column. If your sheet reads better with Approved, or Active, or a word in your own language, you change the text in the code and in the column together and it works the same way. Nothing else is coupled to it.

Where a user lands

A successful login opens a page you nominate in the code — your existing site, a members area, a dashboard built in one of the other files here. It loads inside the app window rather than jumping to the address bar, so the destination URL is not handed out to anyone who signs up.

Setting it up

Make a copy of the sheet, open Apps Script from Extensions, and replace the spreadsheet ID in the two commented spots. The Login sheet holds the email, password and approval columns, so every account decision is made in the spreadsheet, not in code.
